Spring Walk

What you will need for your spring walk: hats, walking shoes, water, nature hunt list, pencil to write with, camera (to record any special moments!)

Take a walk through your local park or neighbourhood and enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds of spring.

Here are a few things you may like to do as you are walking.

Play "I Spy".
Take turns saying, "I spy with my little eye something beginning with the letter ..." Maybe you spy a fence so you say, "I spy with my little eye something beginning with the letter F." Whoever gets it right first has the next turn.

Look for as many different colours as you can.
With so many brilliant spring colours, this may take quite a while!

Have a nature hunt.
Here is a list of things you can look for. You don't need to collect them (but what young child can resist). Simply find the items and tick them off. Do it as a family or give each child his own individual list to tick off. Click here if you would like to print a copy of the Nature Hunt list. (The list will open in a new window. You will need Acrobat Reader to view and print the list.)

o An ant (how many different varieties can you find?)
o A pink flower
o A dead leaf
o A bird
o A nest in a tree
o A pebble
o Tree bark
o A feather
o A nut or seed
o A flower bud
o Grass
o A snail
o A twig
o A butterfly
o A yellow flower
o Pine needles
o An insect
o A bee

Don't forget to take lots of photos of your family having fun together!

At home let each family member draw and colour a picture of their favourite sight. Display the pictures in a very prominent place or turn the drawings into a mobile.
